Environmental Management System and ISO 14001 Certification
Broadening environmental pollution leads to an increase of economic damage caused to the national economy and that the global at large.
In order to solve this problem it is necessary to carry out actions aimed to protection of environment, efficient use of natural resources, implementation of corporate efficient methods of environment protection and those of the monitoring the compliance with environmental legislation. Development of the environmental management systems in line with the requirements of the ISO 14000 international standards is a powerful way of environmental pollution abatement.
Implementation of environmental management systems (EMS) at the enterprises is one of the methods of enhancement of environmental protection management efficiency. Implementation of an EMS will make it possible to reduce adverse environmental load and gain economic benefits. One of the requirements to an enterprise’s EMS operation is to take measures intended to a decrease of the number of emergency situations and breakdowns. Also there is a particular emphasis given to the personnel development that results in a decrease of the number of unauthorized emissions, events of violation of the labor and technical disciplines and, correspondingly, that of the emergency situations through the personnel’s fault. Personnel development is an essential prerequisite for lowering the technical objects’ accident rate.
Implementation of an EMS will give the possibility of:
Cutting the non-production expenses – a more rational and efficient usage of energy and resources;
Minimizing the waste formation, arranging the new lines of the usage;
Decreasing the probability of emergency situations leading to an environmental pollution;
Reducing the insurance expenses;
Getting a chance to obtain new credits and investments (many international financial institutions establish lower rates when financing the companies implemented an EMS; insurance companies establish lower insurance rates for such companies too);
Raising the efficiency of common corporate management system;
Building an ecologically responsible behavior of personnel, developing an incentive scheme, improving the labor and technical disciplines;
Consolidating the market position.
mplementation of an EMS elaborated in accordance with the requirements of ISO14001 standard “Environmental Management System - Requirements with guidance for use” is a way of displaying the corporate social responsibility of JSC “Telasi”. Under ISO14001, the companies should publish their environmental policies and make them available to the public at large.
Implementing an EMS by the Company and obtaining a certificate proving the efficiency of the system’s operation is a momentous requisition for opening an access for the Company’s output to the international market.
Implementation of environmental management systems developed in accordance with the requirements of ISO14001 standard is one of the steps to environmental modernization. The Company came to a decision (a decision of the Supervisory Board dated January 16, 2013, Minutes #88) to implement an Environmental Management System and take necessary measures to launch the integration process. The implementation will open the door to decreasing the environmental pollution, earning an additional profit and entering the international market. At that, the EMSs may be implemented not merely for the certification of conformity of a system under discussion to the requirements of ISO14001 standard, but also for the systematization of the environment protection activities. The implementation of an EMS is economically efficient to JSC “Telasi” and is an integral part of the corporate management system, which is geared to accomplishment of environmental protection objectives. The system’s operation is coordinated with those in other areas, for example, with production management, finances, quality, labor protection, etc.
